Hi, I’m Lesley Messam.
I have been making jewellery for more then 15 years, I finally decided to enrol in evening classes in silver smithing, from that moment I was completely hooked and the obsession began. I took a 6 year certification in silver smithing and jewellery making at South Downs College which I passed with flying colours.
Whilst taking the certification I discovered metal clay, this was new and very exciting and another obsession began. I booked into class after class and finally became a senior AC instructor. All the time I was learning my new passion I was working as a partner in David Messam, the tool shop in Chichester, lots of hard work converting the cellar we finally opened the Bead Cellar in 2008 a haven for my creativity, where we sell all things jewellery related including silver smithing tools, metal clay and beads.
In addition to the bead cellar I have my own purpose built studio in Chichester. I teach a variety of classes including metal clay, mixed media, silver smithing and glass fusing. I am also a travelling teacher and have enjoyed teaching at Towcester Flame Off. I also enjoy writing for a number of publications including Bead, Beads & Beyond, Making jewellery Magazine, Metal Clay Artist Magazine and the American publication Fired. Most recently I have had work reproduced in three books, Chain Chains Chains, New directions and the PMC Annual 2011. I have also been published in Lark 500 Showcase Art Necklaces.
I am always striving to be the best I can possibly be in my field and most recently have achieved Master Registry Level IV whilst still working towards level V.
